Strategies for Success: Recruiting and Engaging Head Start Fathers

Strategies for Success: Recruiting and Engaging Head Start Fathers

Recruiting and engaging fathers has proven to be difficult in some areas. This workshop will assist Head Start staff to involve fathers in recruitment efforts and to develop activities that sustain parental involvement over time. The presenter uses interactive exercises to engage Head Start staff in the process of identifying short- and long-term goals with the fathers, planning and coordinating activities and events, and communicating expectations of participation to the fathers.

Richard A. Claytor, Jr.

In his role as Director of Fatherhood Initiatives, Richard A. Claytor, Jr. oversees the Child Support Enforcement Agency’s services to non-custodial parents, particularly young fathers; coordinates the community-based partnerships; and directs the outreach activities to professionals who work with fathers and families who have been affected by the child support and public assistance systems. He has been working in the criminal justice and human services fields since attending Columbia University. Mr. Claytor is the father of two sons.
