The National Head Start Hispanic Institute was held January 31 - February 4, 2005, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  More than 2,200 people attended the event, which was hailed by both the Head Start Bureau and Institute participants as a resounding success.

The Institute was seen as one way of intensifying Head Start's recruitment and enrollment efforts and enhancing services provided to Hispanic/Latino children and their families.  Specific goals of the National Head Start Hispanic Institute were to:

  • Improve the outreach to Latino communities in the United States
  • Explore and understand the cultural differences within Latino communities
  • Develop methods to effectively serve Latino children and families
  • Ensure positive outcomes in language and literacy development for English language learners

This Web site makes available a variety of presentations, information, and resources on serving Hispanic children and families in Head Start.  It also offers discussion forums, where local program leadership, staff, and parents can ask questions, exchange information, and share resources with their peers.

We encourage you to take full advantage of the resources available on this Web site.  If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at HispanicInstitute@pal-tech.com.
