National Head Start Institute on Hispanic & Other Emerging Populations
April 19-20, 2007
San Antonio, Texas
The National Head Start Institute on Hispanic & Other Emerging Populations brought together some 600 Head Start and Early Head Start program directors, governing board and Policy Council members, and education coordinators to --
- Expand cultural and linguistic competency throughout Head Start to ensure the provision of quality, comprehensive services to all eligible Head Start children and families;
- Increase knowledge of the culture and language of Hispanics and other emerging populations to strengthen recruitment strategies and cultivate culturally and linguistically responsive community partnerships; and
- Enhance knowledge of research-based, culturally appropriate strategies for achieving positive outcomes for children in language and literacy development, including dual language acquisition, and the effective transition into kindergarten of children who are English language learners.
This Website makes available a variety of resources from the Institute, including video clips of the plenary speakers, workshop handouts and presentations, and other relevant information. We encourage you to take full advantage of these resources as you continue your post-Institute learning!
